7th Retreat 2018
The Location
The location was in Mürren with an amazing view on Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch, which we could enjoy directly from the Seminar room as well as from the spacious terrasse.
The Scientific Program
We had scientific presentations by academic speakers from EMBL Heidelberg, Unversity of Lausanne, University of Zurich and ETH, as well as two Industry-talks (one by a representative from Roche, and one by the CEO of the ETH-spin off start-up FGen). As a special guest, Dr. Niki Vermeulen from University of Edinburg gave a talk about her research field: the history of Systems Biology.
The Social Program
In addition to the scientific talks, we organized a career round-table, where all speakers told us about the most important decisions they had to make throughout their career, how they approached them and how they impacted their career. Additionally, to get the students to be more active, we had a student assignment requiring the student teams to combine their individual PhD projects into innovative collaboration projects and present those in very creative ways.
Before leaving Mürren, we made use of the good weather and the beautiful landscape, took the cable car up to Allmendhubel and followed a nice hiking trail back to town.
